In this short filmic essay, documentarian Peter Nestler explores the Rhine from the perspective of its workers. He observes winegrowers and skippers at work, capturing faces, hands and bodies that are always in motion. Their hard work is seen to be the foundation for other’s leisure when the camera captures pleasure-seekers at wine festivals or on boat trips. And the workers? At the end of the day, they stand at the bar of a pub, staring into the camera with lined faces that reveal the hardship of their everyday lives.
